Swimming is one of the best forms of all round exercise available, an activity for everybody, whether you want to get healthier, fitter, or just have fun or relax. No matter what your age, weight and physical ability, swimming and water-based activities can provide you with whole body workout, great for shaping up and even a gentle swim can burn over 200 calories in half an hour. It is also a great way to relax and refresh you after a stressful day.

Swim supervision policy
Children under 8 must be supervised in the water and changing rooms by their parent or adult (18+). A maximum of 2 children is permitted per parent/adult. This is the recommendation of the Health & Safety Executive.

All customers are asked to wear appropriate swimwear designed for water based activities when using the pools. Every effort will be made to accommodate customers with specific religions, cultural, medical or other requirements. Our priority is customer safety at all times.
You can learn to swim at any age! We offer swim classes for all age groups from parent & baby through to adults. All of our lessons are taught by qualified instructors who will help to develop confidence both in and around the water.
Our lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme. This uses fun and games to take children from their first splash to full competence in the pool and will ultimately help your child develop confidence in the water.
We follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme which guides your child through seven clearly defined stages. There’s also a Foundation level to get babies as young as six-months-old started, with badges to gain along the way. After the seven stages are completed your child can progress onto the Aquatic Skills stages 8-10 or our Rookie Lifeguard programme.
Our internet based Home Portal system allows you to access information about your child’s swimming lessons including:
- Your child’s performance against the key competencies for their course level, e.g. Swim 25m efficient backstroke.
- A rating from the teacher on how they are doing against this competency, e.g. Needs practice / Fair / Good
- Notification of when your child is ready to move up a level and the ability to choose from the available times for your child to move into
- Record of all assessments and pass dates for each level

If you have a fear of the water, can’t get your face wet or panic just thinking about the deep end then it’s easy to think swimming is not for you. If you learn to swim you can have fun in the water with your friends, children and grandchildren and make a splash in the water whilst on holiday.
The important thing to know is that you are not alone. One in five adults across the country can’t swim – but it’s never too late to learn. Most pools offer adult classes in a friendly and supportive environment.
If you are unsure about starting lessons, ask if you can watch a class or two to get a better idea of whether it’s for you, or ask to speak with one of our instructors.
Most lessons take things at a slow pace – starting off with teaching you to how to stand up and regain your feet, float and swim without fear before being taught specific strokes.

We now offer a range of gentle and more fitness orientated classes including Aqua Jog, Aqua Fitness and Aqua Circuits.

An aerobics session in the pool that can maintain and improve stamina, strength and suppleness as well as increase cardiovascular fitness. Unlike aerobics on land Aqua Fit is low-impact and the cushioning effect of the water protects joints in the spine, ankle, hip and knees. It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities as participants can work at a variety of levels by increasing effort and using resistive equipment.
Known as the Zumba “pool party,” Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
You or your children can enjoy other pool based activities including parent and baby swim and Family swimming.
